In
Memoriam James C. Fee Sr., 77, a tax accountant, lawyer and professor at Villanova, died on Nov. 21 at his home in Wynnewood of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mr. Fee grew up in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 in Panama. After graduating from the University’s College of Commerce and Finance (C&F) in 1951with a degree in accounting, Mr. Fee attended Temple University’s law school for a J.D. and its business school for an M.B.A. For almost 30 years, Mr. Fee held the position as Chief Counsel for Appeals at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He examined mostly business returns as a revenue agent in his early years with the service and then was assigned to the appeals division. While working for the IRS, he became a certified public accountant. Mr. Fee retired from his position at the IRS in 1982. Mr. Fee then joined Villanova’s faculty as an adjunct professor in the department of Accountancy and also in the Law School’s graduate tax program, teaching a full range of graduate and undergraduate tax courses in the Graduate Tax Program and in C&F. He retired again last year. Mr. Fee was also very active in various Pennsylvania Institutes of CPA Committees, the Section on Taxation and the Philadelphia Bar Association. Mr. Fee is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Heron Fee; daughter, Maureen; son, James Jr.; and a grandson. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Dec. 2 at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Wynnewood.
