"You're
Our Star" recognizes the Facilities Services Department
At the
beginning of the fall 2004 semester, HRD
Graduate
Programs initiated a recognition program called "You’re Our Star" as
a way of publicly thanking the many wonderful people - internal departments
as well as external vendors, who help make our jobs run smoothly and the
time we spend here comfortable and safe. Each month we spend time talking to
various departments and learning more about the people and functions of that
department. For instance, we learned that together Rich and Bill have a
total of 54 years of service at Villanova.
In November, we recognized everyone in the Facilities Service Department
for the outstanding job that they do for us 365 days a year. Not just the
routine jobs but the things like handling emergency situations - a leaking
water heater in the basement of FSB, or maybe our special requests that
require special skills and planning to execute. Our requests are always
handled in a prompt and professional manner. Betty DiRita is our first point
of contact and always makes us feel as if we are her No. 1 customer.
She is extremely helpful and always pleasant.
But our projects are just one very small piece of what Facilities is
capable of and responsible for at the University.
The Facilities Management Office is responsible for all maintenance,
repair, construction, renovations and alterations to the University
facilities and grounds. All approximately 220 beautiful acres of our campus.
I am still in awe when I see those beautiful blue pansies that spell out
VILLANVOA on the front lawn. The Grounds Maintenance Department actually
replants these flowers each season with appropriate blue flowers.
The Facilities Services Department must also ensure that all of
Villanova's facilities and utilities are in compliance with federal, state,
and municipal codes and regulations. No easy feat by any means.
The HRD Graduate Program wants to say, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank
you!" to all of the folks who work for Facilities Services - for keeping
us dry and warm in the winter; cool in the summer; for the well lit and
beautifully landscaped campus; for caring about the safety and comfort not
only for us - the faculty and staff, but for the students.
Steve DiValerio is director of Facilities Services and Bob Morro is
executive director.
