Villanova
Notes Philadelphia Tribune noted Villanova’s Gospel, Faith and Love Center’s Workshop Ensemble and Youth Choir as one of the participation choirs in a benefit gospel concert for the Germantown Women’s Y in February. Villanova’s plan for a $15 million expansion of the Pavilion was noted in Philadelphia Daily News on Mar. 7. The Feb. 23 edition of News of Delaware County acknowledged that world-renowned ethicist Dr. Stanley Hauerwas of Duke University Divinity School was a guest lecturer at Villanova. Dr. Charles Zech, a Villanova economic professor, was quoted in a Mar. 2 New York Times article on fund-raising as an expert on Catholic Church finances. Villanova’s elite 1980’s track program was discussed in the February edition of Sporting Goods Business. The Feb. 9 edition of News of Delware County credited Dr. Crystal Lucky, assistant professor of English, Africana Studies & Women’s Studies at Villanova, as the facilitator of a Toni Morrison discussion held at the Haverford Township Free Library. Novelist Karen Tei Yamashita’s attendance at Villanova’s Literary Festival was noted in the Feb. 17 edition of Philadelphia Daily News. Marc Federico was recognized for receiving the NIAF Martini Foundation Villanova University Scholarship in Italian Voice on Jan 27. Villanova Law school dean Mark A. Sargent, J.D., was quoted in Jan. 25 Philadelphia Inquirer article about bias-related campus recruiting issues. The Feb. 18 edition of Philadelphia Business Journal lists Villanova University as a gold sponsor of Engineers Week 2005. Philadelphia Daily News mentioned Villanova University’s 7th Annual Literary Festival on Mar. 15. The Mar. 2 issue of Reading Eagle listed Robert Dunham, a Villanova law professor, as a leading death-penalty foe in Pennsylvania. A Mar. 13 article in Philadelphia Inquirer Neighbors credits Villanova University nursing students with providing child care services during healthcare seminars. Dr. Bob Styer, a Villanova mathematics professor, was credited with recruited other Villanova professors to help judge a home-school science fair in Springfield Press on Mar. 2. The Mar. 6 issue of Philadelphia Inquirer Neighbors listed Villanova University as the host of a free concert of popular and movie music and light classics which provided five local students the chance to perform. Villanova University’s extension center, which provided classes for nuns in the 1950s and early 1960s, was discussed in an article about Neumann College in the Mar 6 edition of Philadelphia Inquirer Neighbors. An article co-authored by Dr. Janice C. Sipior, a Villanova MIS professor, was published in the Apr-Jun issue of Information Systems Management. The Mar. 18 edition of Philadelphia Business Journal discussed Villanova University’s civil and environmental engineering department entered into a contract with the Philadelphia Water Department. Villanova University was mentioned as the host of iD Tech Camps in the Mar. 15 issue of Philadelphia Tribune. An article on the Augustinian heritage core of Villanova curriculum appeared in Catholic Standard & Times on Mar. 10. The Mar. 6 edition of Sunday Times credited Villanova University for exhibiting the artwork by the winners of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Art Contest. An article on osteoporosis risk by Suzanne C. Smeltzer, RN, EdN appeared in the March issue of Medicine and Rehabilitation. |
