Graduate
student to attend American College Theater Festival
Eileen M. Rafferty ‘06
Regina Pisasale, a graduate student in the theater department,
has been nominated to representing the O’Neill Critics Institute
(OCI) as a regional finalist at the annual Kennedy Center American College
Theater Festival (KCACTF), which will occur from April 12 to 18. Held
at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.,
the festival will consist of presentations, a 10-minute play and scholarships/awards,
showcasing the talents of invited participants who were selected from
regional festivals.
Prior to her nomination, Pisasale was selected by Dr. Earl Bader, assistant
professor of English, to attend the OCI, which according to Pisasale,
assists in elevating the level of arts criticism and provides writers
with the opportunity to grow with other theatre artists. OCI participants
spent three days at the regional festival working with KCACTF chairpersons
and professional theatre critics. Pisasale, chosen as the critic finalist
in her region, will advance to compete with the other seven regional finalists
at KCACTF.
“This nomination is simultaneously exhilarating and petrifying,”
Pisasale said. “But I couldn’t be more honored.” Pisasale’s
involvement with theatre began during her freshman year at the University
of Richmond. After receiving a bachelor of arts degree in theatre arts,
she returned to the Philadelphia area and worked for various venues: 1812
Productions, the Society for the Performing Arts at the Media Theatre
and the Arden Theatre. She enrolled in Villanova’s Theatre Graduate
Program in 2002 and has performed and worked on several University
productions: “The Trojan Women,” “City of Angels”
and “Don Juan.”
