Students Chosen to Attend Political Conventions
Eileen M. Rafferty ‘06

During the fall semester, the University, in conjunction with the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, chose four students, from a large pool of applicants, to attend the political conventions that will occur this summer. Sheila Moynihan ’05 and Christina Adinolfi ’05 will attend the Republican convention in New York; John Sullivan ‘06 and Jeanne Hoffman ‘04 will attend the Democratic convention in Boston, Mass.

At the conventions, Moynihan, Adinolfi, Sullivan and Hoffman will join other Washington Center students from all over the country to participate in an academic seminar program. The program starts a week prior to the convention and consists of panel discussions, guest lectures, research assignments, site visits and tours. It is likely the students will also have floor seats at the conventions.

“This is a great opportunity for interested students to see history made first-hand,” said Dr. John O’Leary, director of the internship program and assistant professor of communication.
“I only dreamed I could get this close to such a big event, let alone be involved,” said Hoffman. “Politics fascinates me, so this is not only a great opportunity for my future career, but also for my own personal experience.”

This program is able to take place through the Washington Center and the University’s Internship Office.
