Noteworthy
Adam Goldstein, UNIT’s IT Security Specialist,
presented a paper titled “EAP-TTLS for Wireless Security”
at the 10th annual Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Computers
and Communications Security. ACM was founded in1947 and is the largest
and oldest educational and scientific computing society. The conference
focuses on leading edge technologies in information security.
Dr. Frank Klassner, Computing Sciences, has been awarded a National Science
Foundation grant of $490,000 to direct a three-year study of LEGO MindStorms’
efficacy in computing curricula across the country. This is a significant
extension of the work begun under a $73,000 proof-of-concept grant awarded
by the NSF in 2001.
Nancy Shart-Hopko, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, of the College of Nursing, has been
elected treasurer of Sigma Theta Tau International during the Honor Society
of Nursing’s 37th Biennial Convention in Toronto, Canada. She has
been a member of the Alpha Nu Chapter since 1975 and has held all chapter
offices. After chairing the Finance Committee from 2001 to 2003, she began
her two-year term as treasurer on Nov. 5.
Dr. Ray Heitzmann, Education and Human Services, spoke recently at the
PAC-TE conference in Hershey, Pa., on “The Villanova University
Case Study Contest” that he directs. Student learning and school
related topics were the focus of his discussion. He has also made several
appearances on “Your Morning Show” on CN8.
Teresa Bowden, reference librarian, Falvey Memorial Library, recently
published an article titled “A Snapshot of State Prison Libraries
with a Focus on Technology” in Behavioral and Social Sciences Librarian
(Vol. 21(2) 2003.
Bill Cowen, Communication, has been named winner of the Public Relations
Society of America’s Anthony J. Fulginiti Award for excellence in
public relations education. In addition to being a Villanova University
professor, he is founding president of Center City-based Metrospective
Communications.
Dr. Hashem Ashrafiuon, Mechanical Engineering, has been appointed as the
IEEE Control Systems Magazine's new Associate Editor for Education in
2004.
