The Catholic Standard & Times cited Rev. Robert Hagan,
O.S.A., director for compliance in athletics, in an article on Church
Law. The article discussed a talk Hagan gave in Southern Montgomery County
on law and order in the Catholic Church.
Col. Bruce Hulick, commanding officer for NROTC, was featured in a Main
Line Times photo story on the 63rd annual membership meeting of the Pan
American Association of Philadelphia. The meeting took place at the Union
League of Philadelphia.
Articles in the Press & Sun-Bulletin and the Akron Beacon Journal
discussed a recent study by Dr. David Nawrocki, professor of finance.
Nawrocki’s study, “Dynamic Asset Allocation During Different
Inflation Scenarios,” suggested that investors “can benefit
by switching between stocks and bonds in response to changes in the rate
of inflation.” Nawrocki conducted the study with Harold Evensky,
chairman of the investment advisory firm Evensky, Brown & Katz.
The Catholic Standard and Times recently published a letter to the editor
from Nursing Dean M. Louise Fitzpatrick. The letter addressed the benefits
of the nursing profession.
English professor Dr. Jean Lutes was cited in a Philadelphia Magazine
article on surviving winter. Lutes, along with University of Pennsylvania
professor Peter Conn, compiled a list of eight essential books for winter
reading. Her picks included Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man and Henry
James’ The Portrait of a Lady.
An article by Education and Human Services professor Deborah Schussler
was published in the Journal of School Leadership. The article, titled
“Schools as Learning Communities: Unpacking the Concept,”
discussed the evolution of learning communities in universities and described
their construct.
The Pennsylvania CPA Journal recently published an article by J. Gary
Dean, adjunct professor in the Graduate Tax Program. Dean, a CPA, addressed
a new regulation by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue to “delineate
the taxability and withholding requirements for employee benefit plans
that may result in postretirement patients to employees.”
Dr. Rick Eckstein, sociology professor, was cited in an article in the
Philadelphia Inquirer on the growing number of stadiums for professional
baseball and football teams. Eckstein, along with Temple University professor
Kevin J. Delaney, published a book titled Public Dollars, Private Stadiums
that addresses the increasing number of new stadiums despite public opposition.

Several newspapers including the Lancaster New Era, the Progress, the
Kane Republican and the Latrobe Bulletin quoted economics professor Dr.
Charles Zech in an article about volunteerism among young people.
In These Times, a Chicago based journal, published a review by humanities
professor Dr. Eugene McCarraher. McCarraher reviewed The Puppet and the
Dwarf: The Perverse Core of Christianity by Slavoj Zizek, which connects
elements of Christianity to a “revitalized, revolutionary Marxism.”
Stephen Merritt, dean of Enrollment Management, was quoted in a Main Line
Today article on the increasing involvement of children and adolescents
in extracurricular activities. Merritt noted that most colleges look for
candidates with strong academic and leadership skills rather than those
with a plethora of extracurricular activities.
