signs computer science exchange agreement Maureen McKew An agreement for academic exchange and cooperation was signed in February between Villanova University and the American University College of Science and Technology in Lebanon. The Rev. Kail C. Ellis, O.S.A. dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, represented Villanova and Hiam Sakr, signed for AUST. Vincent Battle, American Ambassador to Lebanon, also attended the signing ceremony in Beirut. The three-year pact calls for the exchange for either a semester or a full year of up to two students in computer science and computer communication; the agreement also covers an exchange of faculty. Both institutions will assist the exchange students in finding accommodation and medical insurance; tuition fees and expenses will be free for the qualifying students. The faculty exchange will require the participating professors from the two universities to share research in the field. Sakr said that this agreement would have a positive impact on his University’s academic community. Father Ellis was quoted in The Daily Star of Beirut as saying that in addition to contributing to the spread of technology, “it represents an interchange of cultures, an opportunity for the youth of our two countries to know each other, and understand and appreciate each others’ cultures and societies.” |
