Conti Enterprises awards three Villanova engineering students

   Three Villanova junior engineering students were honored at the second annual Conti Enterprises Scholarship luncheon at the Villanova Conference Center on Feb. 9. Madeline Flynn and Brian Sensi were both awarded scholarships and paid summer internships with the company. Conti Enterprises also extended an internship to Garrard Esposito.

   The Conti Enterprises Scholarship program typically awards two $7,000 scholarships and paid summer internship opportunities to qualified civil and mechanical engineering students. This year, an exception was made for Esposito because the interviewers felt that he was also well qualified for the internship program.

   The awards were presented by class of ’84 Villanova alum Kurt Conti, fourth generation descendent of Conti Enterprises founder N. Tony Conti. The applicants were interviewed by Charlie Fresolone, director of human relations and Jyothish Daniel, general manager.

   “Of course we were looking for high performance students,” said Conti. “But more importantly, we were looking for students with good attitudes and good core values.”

   Flynn, a mechanical engineer, heard of the award initially at the dean’s advisory council dinner she attended as a member of the engineering student council. She plans on putting the scholarship toward her tuition and hopes to be accepted into Villanova’s five-year masters program for mechanical engineering. 

   Sensi, a civil engineer from the Princeton, N. J., shares Flynn’s plans to apply to Villanova’s five-year program. His interest lies in the structural engineering program. He became interested in the scholarship program when he received a letter from the school stating that he had been recommended to Conti Enterprises.

   “My sister is also going to be attending college next year,” he said. “The scholarship will really help my parents out.”

   Although the scholarship program only allows for two students to receive monetary awards, Esposito was also selected for a summer internship at Conti.

   Requirements for the award include a 3.0 GPA and an intense hour-long interview with two Conti Enterprises employees. The winners were chosen out of a group of seven applicants.
