Civil Engineering co-hosts 2003 Pennsylvania Stormwater
Management Symposium

The department of civil and environmental engineering
along with the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership will co-host the
2003 Pennsylvania Stormwater Management Symposium on Oct. 16 and 17 in
the Connelly Center The theme of the symposium is “Implementing
Stormwater Management—Integration of Planning, Regulation, Design
and Operations.”
The event will feature discussions by professionals from the Environmental
Protection Agency as well as the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection. Authors will present more than 40 papers in 11 sessions. The
topics will include infiltration, tools for municipal implementation,
stream restoration, innovative solutions I and retrofits, BMP filters
and geotextiles, Karst infiltration, financing stormwater management,
water quality, low impact development, and innovative solutions II and
outreach. Participants also will have the opportunity to tour several
stormwater management sites on campus.
The goal of the symposium is to advance the knowledge and understanding
of comprehensive stormwater management for those dealing in all aspects
of planning, design and implementation and regulatory compliance.
A half-day workshop for non-engineers titled “Removing Obstacles
to Better Stormwater Management,” will be held preceding the workshop,
on Oct. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m.
