‘til Dawn committee holds faculty and staff luncheon By Heather E. Linde, ‘04 The Up ‘til Dawn executive board held a faculty and staff luncheon on September 30, 2003 in the St. David’s Room. The faculty and staff enjoyed food and drink while members of the executive board, advisors, and a St. Jude’s representative presented information about the fundraising program at Villanova. Last year, Villanova’s Up ‘till Dawn’s fundraising program earned $107,000. The unique program combines a series of small fundraisers organized and facilitated by groups of six students each. The executive board holds promotional events and encourages all students, including established campus clubs, to form fundraising teams. The teams then organize events throughout the year including letter writing parties, canning, and other related events. The program culminates with a finale event on campus that includes food, games and other activities. Jaclyn Nunziato, Villanova’s executive director for Up ‘til Dawn was the speaker at the luncheon. Jennifer Bedwick, a representative from St. Jude also spoke. Up ‘til Dawn raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. This hospital researches catastrophic childhood diseases and has treated more than 19,000 patients since it opened in 1962. The hospital’s daily operating cost is $715,000, which is mostly covered through public contributions. ALSAC, which manages the fundraising for St. Jude, pays any costs not covered by insurance and families without insurance are not asked to pay for medical costs. |
