Lectures mark 1,650th anniversary of St. Augustine's birth

The Rev. Robert F. Drinan, S.J., priest, lawyer and former congressman from Massachusetts, visited Villanova University to give a lecture on Sept.21 in the Connelly Center. The purpose of Fr. Drinan's visit was to discuss the importance of Catholic Social Teaching, especially economic justice, in the upcoming election.

Sponsored by the Center for Peace and Justice Education, this event is one in a series of lectures that promotes awareness to the issues pertaining to Catholic Social Thought in the upcoming election. Fr. Drinan was met with opposition from various non-University affiliated pro-life organizations from the Philadelphia area claiming that he was an abortion advocate during and after his term in congress. Fr. Drinan refused to discuss this issue in depth during his lecture and told his audience that "no one issue, abortion or war, should take place, precedence in this election."
