Religions Day By Michael Nataro '06 The World Religions Day Far 'n Forum, held Sept. 14 in the Connelly Center, was viewed as a great success by Kathy Overturf, Campus Ministry coordinator of Interfaith Contact and Outreach. This event, in its second year, was instigated by several Villanova students, both Catholic and non-Catholic. Occupying many tables set up around the Artium, student, faculty and guest representatives from a vast array of faith traditions presented their beliefs for the purpose of promoting tolerance, diversity and understanding. In addition to this mission, Campus Ministry hoped that these representatives would in turn grow stronger in their own religious traditions by sharing them with others of different faiths. The fair was viewed by hundreds of Villanova students throughout the day. The Forum, held in the Villanova Room the same evening, was an academic presentation. This year, the theme was "Women's Voices in Western Sacred Texts." The highlight of the program was the coming together of three women: a Jew, a Christian and a Muslim. They spoke about their own traditions and at the same time gave witness to the audience of the strength ad beauty of believing people, celebrating their uniting grace as children of God. |
