4th
of July celebration
By Heather E. Linde ’04 and Greg McGlone ‘03
Interns from the Office of Communication and Public Affairs
volunteered for Radnor Township’s annual parade on the 4th of July.
The community gathered from Garrett Hill and surrounding streets as bands,
veterans, organizations and fire departments marched to Clem Macrone Park
for food and entertainment.
Local residents and veterans to the parade look forward to participating
in this annual event. Children and adults decorated strollers, bicycles
and scooters with as much 4th of July paraphernalia as possible. Before
the parade commenced, Radnor volunteers and officials judged each age
group and awarded the most creative decorations.
The Villanova interns look forward to participating in this patriotic,
community event each year. While Maria Greshock ’03 and Heather
Linde ’04 registered children for the parade, Greg McGlone ‘03
worked with other volunteers to organize and control large crowds of twirlers,
cheerleaders and swimmers from local studios and teams. Once the parade
commenced, the interns distributed programs to the bystanders.
Nora Lavato, a Radnor resident and Villanova senior, enjoyed the parade
as she watched from the Garrett Avenue and Conestoga Road intersection.
“This was my first 4th of July on the Main Line,” said Lavato.
“I was in awe at the sense of community that could be seen from
all the people that were in attendance at the parade and picnic.”
