Villanova
Nursing's first BSNExpress class graduates College of Nursing celebrates the graduation of its first BSNExpress class. Twenty-three students completed the 14-month program that enables a student with a bachelor’s degree in another discipline, who has fulfilled prerequisites and met admission requirements, to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. This first class entered the College in May of 2003 and finished in August. The students have worked hard during this intense course of study and have made lasting friendships. They are well prepared to enter the nursing profession. “Awesome classmates, enthusiastic and supportive faculty, interesting classroom dialogue, and diverse clinical experiences” are a sample of the phrases used by students in the BSNExpress program to describe their Villanova experience. Elijah Yakpasuo, B.S.N., a computer science major from Liberia, remarks that the students, faculty and Villanova family in general have inspired him in preparing for his career. “I would like to inform students interested in the BSNExpress program at Villanova that you have made the best decision of your life.” Donna Savarese, B.S.N., a physician assistant from King’s College, finds the fast pace of the Express program “exciting.” Vienna Tomesheski, B.S.N., a psychology major from Mount Holyoke College, appreciates the job security provided, not only by the field of nursing, but also by Villanova University’s reputation. Tomesheski explains, “When applying for a job, the moment I say that I am a Villanova nursing student, the employer’s face lights up. So far I have been hired at every place that I have applied to on the spot.” The College recently welcomed its second incoming class of 35 students, comprised of men and women from a variety of backgrounds. Their undergraduate degrees are in such disciplines as medicine, business, biology, industrial arts, health administration, law and psychology. Their varied experiences add to the richness of an already progressive curriculum.
