Theatre gets high praise from critic Alexis Paolantonio '05 On June 27, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s theatre critic Douglas J. Keating published an article hailing those performers, directors, designers and choreographers he believes to be exemplary in the local-theatre category during the past year. Villanova University’s spring musical, Parade was ranked in his top 10. Keating described the production as “compelling theater.” In addition to ranking the performance, The Rev. Peter M. Donohue, O.S.A., chair of the Theatre Department was named runner-up as best director of a musical. “To be named as one of the top 10 productions of the year was in itself a thrill. On top of that, to be named runner-up as director was a privilege,” said Fr. Donohue. Also, actors Josh Saurman and Nina Donze were named runners-up in the best actor for a leading role in a musical, and best actress for a leading role in a musical. Donohue was especially excited for his two students, “I was so proud of Josh and Nina. They worked long hours to develop their roles and to have two of our graduate students named with some of the top professionals in Philadelphia theatre, is a testament to the caliber of Villanova’s Theatre Program and its students.” |
