Make the
Journey Together, Wildcat Pride Forever Micheal Nataro '06 Just
as in the past, mid-August saw the mass arrival of freshmen and transfer
students on campus to begin a journey, a pilgrimage: their Villanova
experience. Traditionally, the odyssey is kicked off with the most memorable
days of the new students’ lives: Orientation. The University fulfills its
mission strategically designed to by welcoming the freshmen and transfer
students to the Villanova academic community. This
year 1,776 freshman and 94 transfers began their Villanova experience. About
100 orientation counselors in groups averaging 18-19 students filled the
campus for five days. The program began with a Liturgy celebrated by the
Rev. Edmund J. Dobbin, O.S.A., University president, in the Pavilion.
Banners waived, hymns resounded and scores of orientation counselors
followed by a column of Augustinians reverently proceeded down the center
aisle to partake in the celebration of the Mass. Following the Mass,
students shared five days of learning and community building.
Relationships were struck between upper classmen and
new students as orientation counselors gave tours of campus, discussed and
shared the college experience, eased fears, encouraged hopes and facilitated
games such as “Mafia,” a popular
From the Orientation perspective, Director Kelly Eastland was also extremely pleased with the program this year. “This year's Orientation staff did a tremendous job in welcoming the new students into the Villanova community. Despite the rain of opening day, I think the new students and their parents felt the warmth and spirit of the Villanova community.”
